Professional Makeup Artist Kristin Gallegos
Not only does Kristin Gallegos have impeccable makeup skills -- she’s a professional makeup artist! -- but she’s also got one killer personal style. With an edgy vibe and a love of fabulous designers like Ricardo Tisci, Kristin gives off the kind of bad-girl feel we all want to rock every now and then! Read on to find out more about her!
I-ELLA: Please tell us a little about what you do.
Kristin: I am a makeup artist that works in fashion. I do makeup for editorials,
advertising, shows for Fashion Week, catalogs, celebrities, etc.! I also host a weekly
dance party at Le Bain at the Standard Hotel called “Zig Zag” on Thursday nights!
I-ELLA: How would you define your personal style?
Kristin: My personal style is dark and structured. I'm all about how things fit to my body. I
think my style could be described as sort of goth modern ‘60s with a ‘90s twist.
I-ELLA: What always catches your eye when shopping?
Kristin: I am a very specific shopper. I don't like digging through things, and I don't have
to look at everything. I can do a quick skim through and be good. I really only wear a
handful of designers so shopping for me is pretty easy. I'm very picky and know exactly
what I want.

I-ELLA: Who is your favorite designer brand and why?
Kristin: I have a few favorite designers! Right now I'm wearing mostly
Miu Miu, Rick Owens, Burberry Prorsum and Givenchy. If I had to choose one favorite I'd say Ricardo Tisci for Givenchy. I think what he is doing right now is genius.

I-ELLA: Do you have any style icons?
Kristin: Yes! My style icons are Edie Sedgwick, Patti Smith, David Bowie, Siouxsie
Sioux and Mick Jagger, to name a few.
I-ELLA: How often do you edit your closet?
Kristin: I actually just did recently. Maybe once a year. I don't buy a lot of filler; I buy
classic investment pieces that I will have forever, so there's not much of a need for
editing really.
I-ELLA: Do you have any tips for our members?
Kristin: When it comes to editing your closet I think that you need to figure out what you
wear the most and go from there. If you have pieces that you bought and rarely ever
wear, maybe it's time to let go of them. Also, if you have a bunch of filler, edit that down.
Keep the classic pieces that go with everything. And the things you absolutely cannot
live without. I think quality over quantity. People are usually shocked at how small my
closet is. It would seem that I have way more clothes than I actually do.
I-ELLA: If you could raid anyone’s closet, past or present, whose would it be?
Kristin: I guess I would have to say Daphne Guinness! The woman has so much
McQueen!
I-ELLA: What is the most meaningful thing in your closet?
Kristin: The most meaningful thing in my closet is this ratty old Van Halen T-shirt (that I wear inside out) that my ex-boyfriend and now best friend gave to me. He wore it for about a decade to perfection and gave it to me a few years ago as a present. I wear it all the time!
I-ELLA: What are your three simple rules to live by?
Kristin: Know who your true friends are and keep them close. Be confident in who you
are; confidence is the most attractive quality. Don't have any regrets!
I-ELLA: What’s next?
Kristin: This is a crazy busy work season for me so I will be working non-stop nd
continuing to do “Zig Zag” at Le Bain! NYC during the holiday season is my absolute
favorite time of year, so I will be doing festive things and enjoying the season as much
as humanly possible!
